Simple Guide to Countertop Care

Taking care of your countertops isn’t hard, but different materials need different care. Here’s how to keep yours looking great.

Quartz Countertops are super easy to clean. Just use soap and water for everyday cleaning. Stay away from strong cleaners like bleach, and don’t use rough scrubbers. Even though quartz resists stains well, it’s best to clean up spills quickly. Always use a trivet or hot pad under pans, since really high heat can damage the surface over time.

Soapstone Countertops get better looking as they age. Rubbing them with mineral oil every once in a while brings out their rich color. If you get small scratches, you can smooth them out with sandpaper. You can put hot pots right on soapstone without worrying because it can take the heat.

Granite Countertops need a little extra care. You’ll want to reseal them every year or two to keep them protected. For cleaning, use gentle cleaners that aren’t too acidic. Watch out for things like lemon juice or vinegar because they can make dull spots on your granite.
